Grief is the price we pay for love

Bereavement Cafe

A brand new service in 2023, our Bereavement Cafe aims to connect local bereaved people, to help support each other through loss and grief.

PLEASE NOTE, THIS SERVICE DOES NOT RUN ON BANK HOLIDAYS

Who benefits from this service?
This service is for anyone registered with a Rossendale GP who is struggling with grief.
Those who attend will spend time with others who are going through their own experiences as well as our trained staff.

What happens at the cafe?
Every Monday between 10am and 12.30pm we open our lounge up to those who wish to join us.

Refreshments will be provided and as well as providing a safe space for people to open up and talk or share helpful resources, we also offer activities such as:
  • Relaxation
  • Mindfulness
  • Self care
  • Tai Chi
  • Crafts
  • Mindful colouring and Mandalas

Why is this a hospice service?
When people hear the word hospice they often think immediately about end of life care. Our facilities are for day patients only and we do not have inpatient facilities. No wards, no beds, no beeps or buzzers.

For anyone worried about visiting during times of grief, please rest assured during our cafe opening hours, no patients will be in attendance. There is no hosptial 'feel' to our spaces and any attendance is strictly confidential.
If you should have any questions or worries about it, please feel free to talk to us in advance, or pay us a visit with a friend.

Your loved one does not have had to have used our services in order that you attend.

Is it all indoors?
No!
Over the summer months we will be hosting a 'Walk in the Park' once a month at Whitaker Park.
We'll meet in the car park at 10am on the first Monday of the month for a brew and a chat and gentle walk around the beautiful park.

How do I access this service?
Our cafe is only open Mondays between 10am and 12.30pm.

These are open sessions. You do not have to book to attend, though you are free to contact us in advance should you wish to.

Our only requirement is that you are registered with a Rossendale GP and need help with loss.

You may wish to consider wearing comfortable clothes in case you wish to partake in any of our gentle wellbeing exercises.

There is no charge to attend and refreshments are free, though if you wish to make a small donation it would be welcomed.

Any questions, please email susan.smith@rossendalehospice.org for more details.

We are located inside the Hub (Rossendale Primary Health Care Centre - BB4 7PL) and can be accessed via the lift to the rear of the building. We are a wheelchair accesible space.
