Six schools took part in this year’s Youth Enterprise Challenge, organised by Rossendale Hospice. Participating schools included Accrington and Rossendale College, Alder Grange High School, Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School, Haslingden High School, The Valley Leadership Academy and Whitworth Community High School.
The annual challenge encourages students to design and deliver creative fundraising initiatives, developing valuable skills such as teamwork, organisation and budgeting along the way. With hospice running costs exceeding £1 million each year, initiatives like this play a vital role in supporting care for local families.
Over recent months, teams have planned and delivered a range of fundraising activities before presenting their results at a celebration evening held at Alder Grange High School on 3rd March 2026. Students shared their achievements with the Mayor of Rossendale, representatives from the Hospice and fellow participants.
Grace Cole, Supporter Engagement Fundraiser at Rossendale Hospice, said:
“Each year, we are blown away by the incredible commitment shown by the students taking part in our Youth Enterprise Challenge, and this year was no exception.
Our celebration evening is always my favourite part of the project. It’s such a privilege to hear how each school has used creativity, teamwork and determination to raise funds for the Hospice.
Since launching in 2016, the Youth Enterprise Challenge has raised almost £40,000. That is an incredible achievement. The money raised will help us continue providing vital support to families across Rossendale, and every student involved should feel immensely proud of what they have accomplished.”
Students were recognised with a series of awards on the evening:
Best Presentation – The Valley Leadership Academy
Most Profit Raised – Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School
Most Money Raised Per Pupil – Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School
Most Innovative Fundraising Idea – Whitworth Community High School
Greatest Community Involvement – Alder Grange High School
Fundraisers’ Achievement Award – Haslingden High School
The event was kindly sponsored by The Green Gardening and Property Services.
