Hospice at Home Service  - Ad Hoc Palliative Support Workers

Caring for someone in the final weeks and months of their life is both challenging and demanding, but it is also an uplifting and rewarding experience. Promoting comfort and dignity, independence and collaboration, our Hospice at Home service, working closely with the district nursing teams, enables people to remain in their own homes.

Our Palliative Support Workers visit patients within the community of Rossendale, sometimes working alone, providing practical and basic nursing care and support to patients and their loved ones under the direction of the RGNs/Team Leader. We are looking to recruit Ad Hoc Palliative Support Workers, to join our existing team of community staff. Various shifts are available between 4 hours and 9 hours for day care, and 10 hour night sits. Applicants are required to have health care experience, preferably with some experience of working with people with life-limiting conditions and as part of a team.

An NVQ 2 in Care or equivalent and excellent communication skills are essential. It is vital that our patients and those important to them receive an efficient service which meets their needs, this is only possible with the dedication and commitment to high standards observed by our staff. Applicants must be reliable, approachable, proactive team workers and passionate about delivering excellence.

This role is advantageous to those wishing to supplement their substantive posts elsewhere and those who prefer to be able to choose their hours to fit around their lifestyles. It is also a valuable opportunity for student nurses to broaden their exposure and build skills and knowledge within palliative and end of life care that would positively influence their future nursing careers. Employment will be subject to an enhanced DBS clearance. Applicants must have a driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use. Rossendale Hospice values its employees and provides ongoing support with development, including access to clinical supervision, counselling and role relevant training. Uniform is provided with the benefit of free parking available to all staff and mileage paid monthly.
