There are occasions in a child’s life when circumstances disrupt normal routine such as the diagnosis of a life limiting illness or a death within the family.
Many children appear to cope one minute and then be upset or ‘act up’ the next. Family members can interpret this as insensitivity to the feelings of others and the family may feel overwhelmed and/or unable to cope.
A variety of age relevant aids may be used including reading materials, workbooks, videos etc to enable the child to express their feelings in a controlled safe environment
Referrals can be made by health care professionals, teachers, parents or other family members.
Support sessions usually last up to 50 minutes and on average 2–6 sessions are needed.
