We also offer counselling support to family members, carers and close friends who are affected by their loved one’s illness; pre and post bereavement counselling for children, young people and adults.
Pre and post bereavement counselling is available at Rossendale Hospice for people of all ages living in the Rossendale valley who are struggling to cope with their emotions leading up to and following the death of a family member or close friend.
Bereavement can be the most traumatic and significant life event that a person has to face and is often a life altering experience. Grief is a natural and normal part of life but sometimes people may benefit from support to understand and cope with what can be a devastating time.
Many people come through the experience of a major loss without the need for help from outside their circle of family or friends, but for others their feelings of loss are so overwhelming that it can be helpful to seek the support of a trained professional.
Counselling provides private, confidential space to gain emotional support and practical guidance at a challenging time. A counsellor is an impartial professional who will listen non-judgementally and help:
- clarify and prioritise concerns
- deal with fears about the future
- manage anxiety and depression
- identify short term goals
- help you adjust to life without your loved one
Sessions are free of charge and last approximately 50 minutes, they are usually held weekly. Appointment times and goals for therapy will be discussed and agreed at the first session.
We also offer counselling for children and young people who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, grandparent or other loved one. Adults may be so overwhelmed by their own grief that they find it hard to support the children around them. We can offer guidance in supporting children and young people or work individually with them to help them understand and express their feelings.
Our counsellors are highly qualified and experienced psychotherapists. As a BACP Accredited Counselling and Psychotherapy Service we are bound the Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.
