The Rossendale Hospice Annual Ball is without doubt one of the ‘must attend’ fundraising events held to support people living in the valley.
Organised by a group of dedicated ladies, also known as the ‘Special Events Committee’ this year’s event was held on Saturday 19 September at the Radisson Edwardian Blu Hotel in Manchester. The theme was ‘Gatsby’and great it was, a roaring success indeed raising a staggering £25,000!
Over two hundred people attended the ‘swell party’ and guests included David Gill, vice-chairman of The Football Association and former CEO of Manchester United. The ‘voice of Manchester United’ Alan Keegan was the compere for the evening and the Hospice is very grateful to him for being such a wonderful auctioneer.
The auction is undoubtedly how the money is raised on the evening and with designer handbags, can’t buy Manchester United memorabilia to holidays at private villas in Portugal there was lots to bid on. This year’s star prize was a VIP day trip to the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix, flying in a private jet which sold for £4000.
Local man and patient of the Hospice, Dave Howarth featured in a video which was shown for the first time at the event. Dave’s documentary shares his thoughts through his cancer journey so far and his family’s experiences of the care and support they are receiving from Rossendale Hospice.
Sam Morris, Community Fundraising Manager adds ‘The annual ball is a wonderful event and a great night is had by all but the purpose of our fundraising events is to raise money to help local people living with Cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. With Cancer affecting every one in three people, you can be sure that this event will help someone you know.’
This year’s event marks the fifteenth annual ball organised by the ‘Special Events Committee’ and during that time they have raised £722,000 for Rossendale Hospice, a truly fabulous achievement. Belinda Evans, Chair of the committee says “Another amazing night for the Hospice, the SEC would like to thank all the guests and companies for their tremendous support, all the local businesses who provide raffle and auction prizes. The success of the event is a reflection of the Valley’s support to the Hospice. Our next event is the Ladies Lunch at Nino’s Restaurant on Friday 4th December and tickets are now on sale.”
